Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction’s buildings & factories business has recently won the contract to redevelop Bombay Development Directorate (BDD) chawls at Worli for Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). The contract is worth Rs 2,903 crore which is the largest residential project deal L&T has ever received, confirmed by the company.
The BDD chawls comprises 207 buildings built by the British in the 1920s time. It has spanned over 93 acres of South Mumbai’s Worli, Lower Parel, Sewri and Naigaon region. L&T Construction needs to design and construct 20 residential towers which will have a total 23 floors. There will be four high-rise towers for sale with 72 floors and one commercial development of 21 stories. Furthermore, the company has to manage MEP, finishes, onsite/offshore infrastructure, landscaping, logistics involved in the renovation of the current residents or occupants and demolition of existing structures.
