On the contrary of its push on the development of affordable houses in the Union Budget 2017-18, the government has approved another 90,095 houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) – Urban in three states. The centre has also planned to provide a monetary assistance of Rs 1,188 crore to build these houses.
Madhya Pradesh got approval for 42,499 houses under affordable housing in partnership (AHP) component. Also, there is a total of 82,262 houses in 49 cities and towns of the state allotted by the ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) with an investment of Rs 5,260 crore and the central assistance of Rs 1,071 crore.
Adding to it, another 39,763 new houses are to be built in Madhya Pradesh under BLC component. For these houses, the government will help monetarily the eligible beneficiary to build his/her house. Under BLC and AHP component central assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh will be provided to each beneficiary. With these new approvals, the total affordable houses to be developed in the state reached to 187,135.
Jammu & Kashmir received the approval for 46,823 new houses and the enhancement of 773 houses under Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) component of PMAY-Urban. The state also needs to build 4,915 houses in 24 cities and towns with an investment of Rs 240 crore and central assistance of Rs 74 crore.
803 affordable houses are allotted to Silvassa, a capital of Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The total fund of Rs 26 crore and central assistance of Rs 12 crore will be spent to complete all the constructions. As of now, the government has approved total 1,651,687 affordable homes under PMAY-Urban with a total investment of Rs 89,072 crore with a total investment of Rs 25,819 crore and central assistance of Rs Rs 25,819 crore.
