The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has shortlisted 29 contractors for three packages of 22 kms Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link project which is planned to provide sea-link across the harbour on the east coast of the megapolis. L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji and Tata Projects are among the listed.
The authority have selected seven contractors for first two packages which are separated in the division of distance – Sewri to next 10.38 kms and second package will be till 18.187 kms – and 15 contractors for final package covering up to Chirle village (near Navi Mumbai). The last date to submit the RFP (request for proposal) documents is April 15, 2017.
The MTHL project has yet to finalize on financial closure. However, they have an offer of soft loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Reportedly, the estimated cost is over Rs 17,000 crore.
With this project, some of the recent time problems including congestion in Island city and connectivity issue between eastern part of the city and Navi Mumbai. It also connects Navi Mumbai and the proposed international airport with the island city and also gives a link to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
