Japan comes forward to be a partner with India in developing Chennai, Ahmedabad and Varanasi as smart cities. The decision is held in a meeting with Japanese Ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu on the discussion of India’s urban development initiative, confirmed by M Venkaiah Naidu – the Union Urban Development Minister.
“We would like to match the action oriented approach of the Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” says Japan’s envoy.
Recently, British High Commissioner Dominic Asquith agreed to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to team up and cooperate in urban development sector. Later, the MoU was signed in the presence of British Prime Minister Theresa May during his visit to India.
With these update, India has now collaborated with several countries like USA, UK, France and Germany to develop 15 smart cities which include Visakhapatnam, Ajmer, Allahabad, Pune, Amaravati, Indore, Chandigarh, Puducherry, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Coimbattore and Kochi.
